Care Instructions
This is a natural product and will have minor flaws and imperfections. Those are I think, a part of its beauty. And it needs a little loving care. As with any handcrafted wooden piece used for food service this board may in time get dull or show fine knife cuts. Treat it gently. And with proper care and some maintenance, the life of your handcrafted wooden pieces will be greatly extended.
My suggestions for care of your boards are :
Avoid very hot platters.
Soon after use wipe or wash the board carefully and gently.
Never fully immerse your board in water or soak the board – hand wash with warm water, minimum soap, hand dry with a dish towel and allow to air dry.
Avoid exposure to direct sunlight other than for short periods like say over lunch.
These are not cutting boards so please avoid sharp knives.
The board was soaked in thinned natural plant oils then several coats of hard wax oil applied. Nevertheless it may in time dull or show small knife marks. A fresh coat of a food safe oil like orange oil may assist.
Rejuvenation is possible - sand with 180grit, then240 grit, then 320 grit sandpaper and reapply several coats of quality food safe wax or cutting board oil buffing between coats.
